Curatorial Statement
This exhibition brings musical experiences to life from a flat image on the wall. Each piece offers a unique combination of animation, musical genre, tone and potential affinities or intentional discord. The combination of works provokes questions like: Is this the next innovation of the music video? Is this the next way we connect to micro-music forms, like those abundant in social media, as computing technology goes spatial?
The artists were selected from EyeJack’s Prosthetic Reality V.1 and V.2., a book that brought together over 60 artists, animators and sound designers from around the planet to showcase augmented reality (AR) NFT art. It’s the first book of its kind to combine AR, the blockchain and traditional art.
In concert with the art on the walls, Pandakero (Keorattana Luangrath or Kero) created Bloomscapes, a bespoke augmented reality experience completely "off the walls." Made under the creative direction of EyeJack’s founder and renowned-digital artist Sutu, this piece transforms The Music Center’s fountain on Jerry Moss Plaza into a plinth for an enthralling sculpture that gracefully sways to the beat of the music, transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary. This stunning work—invisible to the naked eye—is revealed by mobile devices.
The Music Center Presents Music off the Wall: An EyeJack Experience is an exhibition of The Music Center’s Digital Innovation Initiative, which, among other programs, curates a creative residency series that invites artists, community creatives and culture makers to animate Jerry Moss Plaza by designing digitally enabled experiences that invoke delight, curiosity, play, creativity and/or emotion.
