This free community event is presented in partnership with Dance Resource Center, Dexter Story, dublab, Arts for LA and LA Commons.

Art Making Activity & Story Lounge, curated by Dexter Story (LFTE) and LA Commons and hosted by LA Commons
Artists AQMNI will lead an art activity for all ages where participants can share their memories and stories around vinyl and listen to an array of vinyl records.
Interactive Resource Center: Bridging Analog to Digital, hosted by Arts for L.A.’s Emerging Arts Leaders
Through an interactive resource experience featuring L.A.-based analog media artists and Plynth, an augmented reality platform, deepen your knowledge of local creatives, events and organizations that produce, support and honor diverse analog cultures!

The Fundamentals of HiFi

Learn what to look for when building a system including worthwhile component upgrades, the difference in digital listening (DACs, Streamers, Bluetooth, et al.), basic cartridge technologies, the differences between component classes (Class A, AB, D, et al.) and more. -
Scratch Workshop
Presented by Beat Junkie Institute of Sound
12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.
This hands-on workshop will teach aspiring DJs the fundamentals of scratching, from the basic baby scratch to the release and more. Mr. Choc is one of the top instructors in the industry and will provide step-by-step instruction and personalized feedback to help students develop their skills. Additionally, students will also gain insights into the artistry and creativity involved in DJing. -
Turntable Maintenance Workshop
Presented by Beat Junkie Institute of Sound
2:15 p.m. - 2:45 p.m.
This hands-on workshop is designed to help DJs and vinyl enthusiasts learn how to properly care for and maintain their turntables. Experienced instructors will provide step-by-step instructions on cleaning and lubricating the tonearm, cartridge and stylus replacement, belt and motor maintenance, and more. Additionally, participants will gain insights into the history and culture of turntablism.

UniverSOUL Hip Hop, hosted by Dance Resource Center, consists of a multicultural group of highly qualified, socially engaged artists who are passionate about cultivating community, justice, and joy through dance. Watch an interactive performance with a live DJ, and then hop into the party with your own dance moves!

LA-based musician, composer and musicologist Dexter Story dug into the vinyl archives and compiled an inspiring collection of classic songs that sourced hip hop’s illustrious repertoire. Explore the wide range of genres, styles, textures and grooves that hip hop producers such as DJ Marly Marl, Easy Mo Bee, Pete Rock, DJ Premier, RZA, The Bomb Squad, Erick Sermon, Large Professor, Prince Paul, Q-Tip, Organized Noize, Madlib, J Dilla, Dr. Dre, P Diddy, Just Blaze, Kanye West, The Alchemist and many others sampled to create the global boom bap soundtrack to our lives.
