The Future is Bright at The Music Center's Spotlight!
For 35 years, The Music Center’s Spotlight has uplifted young artists to develop their talents alongside industry professionals in dance, acting, instrumental and voice. As part of the Spotlight program, which runs annually from October – June, Southern California high school students are given unprecedented access to professional auditions, feedback and mastery classes taught by renowned artists and arts administrators, and are given invaluable guidance to develop their skills and confidence.
Spotlight is completely free of charge, and participants are recognized and rewarded during the annual Grand Finale held each year at The Music Center, where the program’s 14 finalists perform on stage before an audience of patrons, family and friends and are awarded more than $100,000 in arts scholarships.

"There are so many things that I love about Spotlight, but my favorite would have to be the support system that is created by all the people working on the project." —Katelyn H., 2018 Non-Classical Voice Finalist

Creative Futures
The Music Center’s Spotlight is more committed than ever to broadening our impact by supporting participants as they pursue their creative potential, both onstage and off, through careers in the creative economy. As we uplift the next generation of students, we want to provide access and guidance for a whole host of industries within the entertainment and creative sectors, including production, costuming, media arts, marketing, writing and beyond!
The Music Center now offers a series of bootcamps throughout the year, where Spotlight staff and teaching artists will help young adults, ages 17–21, develop their workforce readiness and social and creative intelligence, including:
- Communication — to support presentation and interview skills
- Resiliency — to support professional risk-taking
- Curiosity — to support creative problem solving
- Adaptability — to support navigating workforce politics
- Confidence — to support healthy boundaries
This free program, open to all students, will help participants chart a path toward their first “offstage” opportunities in the creative industries.
