The Music Center's Artsource® Curriculum Natividad Cano

Natividad Cano Artsource Unit

Malagueña Salerosa

Mariachi music is a traditional style of Mexican music and singing in which the musicians often stroll among patrons as they play.  Natividad Cano and his musicians are some of the finest players of the violin, guitar, vihuela, trumpet, harp and guitarron. Featured in this recording is Malagueña Salerosa, an example of the Mexican singing style which was influenced by 19th century Italian opera.  Featuring a folk song, the lessons break down the rhythm and meter of a Mariachi song and show the influence of Mariachi on modern composers. Enduring Values and The Human Family are featured universal themes.
