Shapes!
California E.A.R. Unit musicians interpret and play the complex musical works of modern composers. Featured in this unit is Shapes! an improvisational piece based on symbolic notation determined by the composer. Since traditional notation doesn't guide them, performers are given both the challenge and freedom to musically interpret these symbols as they wish. This abstract music also requires the listeners to use their imaginations as they hear and respond to the sounds. Lessons show students how to create their own musical pieces using shapes as symbols, which they will interpret and perform. The major theme for this unit is Transformation.
