The Music Center Presents BLKNWS® in Residence
June 10 – August 11, 2024
Jerry Moss Plaza at The Music Center
Free
Join us this summer for a very special residency featuring acclaimed artist and filmmaker Kahlil Joseph and his innovative project, BLKNWS®. Since its debut as a two-channel video installation at the 2019 Venice Biennale, BLKNWS has continually evolved in form and scope.
This year, it takes its newest form in the highly anticipated feature film BLKNWS: Terms and Conditions, produced in collaboration with A24 and Participant Media.
Guests to The Music Center will be immersed in a free multi-dimensional experience inspired by the world and ideas of BLKNWS.
Highlights of the BLKNWS Residency on Jerry Moss Plaza at The Music Center Include:
The Garvey Garden
Free & open daily
Jerry Moss Plaza at The Music Center transforms into The Garvey Garden, a sprawling green space and summer oasis where guests can lounge, learn, gather and dance in the heart of downtown Los Angeles.
BLKNWS® Broadcasts
Watch on the Jerry Moss Plaza LED screens
BLKNWS, a conceptual news program, will broadcast exclusively to The Garvey Garden through the large LED screens on Jerry Moss Plaza at The Music Center. This two-channel art installation blurs the lines between art, journalism, entrepreneurship and cultural critique.
BLKNWS® LibraryCafé
Open Tuesday - Sunday
Noon - 8:00 p.m.
Like BLKNWS itself, the LibraryCafe collages bookshop, library and cafe forms to brew a vibrant atmosphere of communing and study for the public. Guests are invited to purchase beverages from Sip & Sonder, books co-curated by Reparations Club and apparel from clothing retailer Union LA (as well as the first ever BLKNWS merch!).
Guests may also read freely from an exclusive collection of books donated from the personal libraries of BLKNWS, including Noah Davis, Cathy Opie, Melodie McDaniel and Arcana Books for the Arts (to name a few).
