The construction on The Music Center Plaza is scheduled to last between 15-18 months. We anticipate opening a newly refurbished plaza in the spring of 2019.
Will the theatres at The Music Center be open during construction?
All four theatres at The Music Center (Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, Mark Taper Forum, Ahmanson Theatre and Walt Disney Concert Hall) will remain open during construction. Please check musiccenter.org for performance dates and times.
Where do I park during construction?
Both the parking lots that are under The Music Center (entrance off Grand Avenue) and The Music Center’s Walt Disney Concert Hall (main entrance off 2nd Street) will remain open and available throughout the construction.
How do I get from the parking lot to the box office or theatre?
There will be signs posted throughout The Music Center campus along with ushers to help direct you to your destination during your visit to The Music Center.
How do I get to one of the theatres if I require ADA assistance?
As always, you can call (213) 972-0777 in advance and request assistance for when you arrive. An usher will be on hand to escort you to your destination. In addition, there will be elevator access to the street and plaza levels throughout the construction period. Signs will be posted throughout The Music Center parking lots and on the plaza directing you on the locations of elevators, etc.
Do you suggest I build in extra time to get to The Music Center, park and walk to the theatre?
We don’t anticipate any additional delays because of the construction when you arrive at The Music Center. However, we always recommend allowing plenty of time for driving, parking and walking to the theatre.
Will there still be a place to get something to eat or have a drink before or after a performance on the plaza?
During construction, there will be various locations where you will be able to enjoy a drink or a meal either on the plaza or around The Music Center campus. The options will vary depending on the time of year and status of the renovation. Please check here for more detailed information.
Where do you suggest I arrange to meet friends/family who are joining me for the performance?
While the main portion of the plaza will be under construction for the foreseeable future, the open space outside of the Ahmanson Theatre and under the colonnade by the Mark Taper Forum will remain open to our guests throughout the day and during performances. The areas surrounding The Music Center’s Walt Disney Concert Hall will not be affected by the construction. We suggest that guests of The Music Center’s Dorothy Chandler Pavilion can meet friends and family at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion box office, across the street in Grand Park or in the theatre lobby.
Will the theatre lobbies open earlier than usual to provide guests with a place to sit and relax before each performance?
While the theatres will not open any earlier than usual, there will still be tables and chairs outside of the construction area for pre-theatre enjoyment.
What will be new or different about the new plaza once it is completed?
The Music Center’s newly refurbished plaza will create an open space on one level creating more space, open areas and public gardens. The plaza will feature new dining options, outdoor and performance spaces, direct accessibility from the street level and views overlooking Grand Park and City Hall.
