Seventh Annual Grand Park + The Music Center's N.Y.E.L.A. to Celebrate "Who is L.A. 2020?" Reflecting the Intersection of Sounds, Ideas and Community

West Coast’s Flagship New Year’s Eve Event Expands Its Footprint to Seven City Blocks Plus The Music Center Plaza Featuring More Than 40 Food Trucks, One-of-Kind 3-D Video Projection Countdown to Midnight and Two Stages of Continuous Free Music Performance

Leimert Park’s Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra to Headline the “Countdown Stage” as Cherry Poppin and Gasolina DJs Spin Tunes from the “Get Down Stage” for an All-Night Dance Party

WHAT:  More than 50,000 people are expected to ring in 2020 at the seventh annual Grand Park + The Music Center’s N.Y.E.L.A., Los Angeles’s go-to central gathering place and the West Coast’s flagship New Year’s celebration! Free for all ages, this unique civic event brings together Angelenos and visitors from around the globe to greet the new decade at L.A.’s biggest free music and dance party. The alcohol-free, family-friendly event will expand its celebratory footprint, which will now span seven city blocks from L.A.’s iconic City Hall through the newly renovated Music Center Plaza (from Los Angeles Street to Hope Street and from Temple to 3rd Street). Starring L.A.’s best DJs and bands, Grand Park + The Music Center’s N.Y.E.L.A. will also feature its signature 3-D video projection and light show on the west side of City Hall designed by L.A.-based digital innovation studio yU+co. This year’s theme is “Who is L.A. 2020?” and will feature joyful and timeless images of the beautiful Angeleno community.

The event features two stages of simultaneous performances. Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra (Leimert Park’s legendary Afro-beat jazz band) headlines the “Countdown Stage” (located near Spring Street) and also features DJ Pauli “The PSM” (Drummer with the Gorillaz), Thee Sinseers(East L.A.’s R&B), and Banda Las Angelinas (Compton’s all-female banda group) between 8:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m., emceed by Emmy-award winning TV host Pili Montilla. The sights and sounds of the “Countdown Stage” will be broadcast live on The Music Center Plaza’s giant LED screens. ASL interpretation will be available on the “Countdown Stage” throughout the party.

Purveyors of two of Los Angeles’ popular dance nights, Gasolina (featuring DJ Chava and DJ Krucial) and Cherry Poppin’ (featuring DJ Rell and DJ Bonds hosted by KG Superstar), will bring their sounds to Grand Park, celebrating a vital part of L.A.’s nightlife scene through Reggaetón and Hip Hop on the park’s “Get Down Stage” (located near Hill Street).

Various culinary delights will be available for purchase on site ranging from sweet to savory. Organized into Metro Line “villages,” more than 40 food trucks will serve multicultural fare representing the many communities found along the Blue, Red, Purple, Green, Gold and Expo Lines. Party-goers will also enjoy a 3D-animated countdown to midnight with pyrotechnics to ring in the New Year!
