The Music Center to Launch Upstage Burger, the Performing Arts Center's Newest Dining Establishment Offering Dining Options at Accessible Price Points

Part of The Music Center Plaza Renovation, New Gourmet Burger Joint Offers New Dining Options Open to the Public Every Day of the Week

Los Angeles (November 5, 2018) - The Music Center announced the grand opening of Upstage Burger, a quintessential Angeleno burger joint that brings a new, casual dining option to the heart of Downtown Los Angeles. A forward-thinking concept, Upstage Burger is designed in a format similar to that of a food truck but is a permanent building that overlooks The Music Center’s world-renowned Walt Disney Concert Hall and the bustling Grand Avenue Arts corridor. The new restaurant will open beginning today, November 5, 2018. The eatery joins casual outdoor Latin restaurant Cocina Roja, located adjacent to The Music Center’s Ahmanson Theatre as the second dining establishment The Music Center has added to The Music Center Plaza as part of the iconic performing arts center’s plan to transform its campus into a highly accessible, welcoming outdoor metropolitan venue people can enjoy, whether or not they are attending a performance.  Upstage Burger will be open to the public seven days a week.

“With the growth of Downtown L.A. and its evolution into a culinary destination, The Music Center now offers dining options attractive both to our patrons and the public who work and play in downtown,” said Howard Sherman, chief operating officer for The Music Center. “Upstage Burger will be a great place to grab a burger with colleagues, meet friends for a drink before a performance or relax on a weekend over lunch with views of The Music Center’s beautiful Walt Disney Concert Hall.”

The 21st century burger stand offers a select variety of handcrafted, made-to-order sandwiches, burgers and sides using only the finest ingredients. From premium grass-fed beef and the vegetarian IMPOSSIBLE™ burger, to Mary’s free-range chicken and all-beef hot dogs, Upstage Burger “upstages” one’s impression of the typical burger stand.  Customers will order via iPad kiosks and pick up their meal at the window.  They will then have the option of taking a seat on the newly designed patio overlooking the Frank Gehry-designed Walt Disney Concert Hall on the corner of Grand Ave. and 1st Street. The Music Center operates Upstage Burger in collaboration with its food service partner Patina Restaurant Group.

Once fully complete in the fall of 2019, The Music Center Plaza will offer new amenities including the Lisa Specht Welcome Center and three restaurants along with the necessary infrastructure upgrades to appeal to even more Los Angeles County residents and visitors than before. This is the first renovation of the plaza since The Music Center opened in 1964. The award-winning, Los Angeles-based multidisciplinary architecture and design firm, Rios Clementi Hale Studios, which also designed Grand Park and Grand Avenue Streetscape, and led the renovation of The Music Center’s Mark Taper Forum, is at the helm of the plaza redesign, which will double the capacity of the space from 2,500 to 5,000 people.
