About The Performers
LAS COLIBRÍ or “The Hummingbirds,” have a passion for music, beauty, and girl power. These women are flying into new territory by returning to the all-string instrumentation of the early 20th century mariachi tradition. With colorful, feminine costumes of the Mexican cinematic divas of the 40’s and 50’s Las Colibrí is one of the most unique ensembles in this genre of music. After years of achieving much success, individually as instrumentalists and vocalists in various professional arenas, these women have come together with their lovely blend of vocal harmonies, unique arrangements, and interpretation of traditional sones, huapangos, rancheras with a contemporary twist.
Artist Q & A
What is your favorite memory about being in the L.A. County Holiday Celebration and why?
I love being able to see the band on Christmas Eve. It really is symbolic of the end of the year for us and all the hard work we have put in together. This particular Holiday Celebration, we closed the show which was very special and amazing to have a winter wonderland surround us. The production staff also allowed us to coordinate a surprise engagement for one of the girls in front of the whole audience!!! We were so lucky to have lived that moment together at The Music Center’s Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.
What do you enjoy the most about performing in general?
The connection with our audience and our community is the most gratifying thing of all. Mariachi is so much about culture and values and connection to our past, but it also transcends many generations. We are bright, beautiful, and talented women, and we connect with so many people in different ways. It always makes us so happy.
If you could say one uplifting thing to Los Angeles and the people watching your video now, what would it be?
The arts are standing still like a hummingbird, but hopefully we can see the magic of it all!
