Daniel Ho Trio & Hālau Hula Kealiʻi o Nālani featuring Tia Carrere and Friends

L.A. County Holiday Celebration Featured Performers

About

The Daniel Ho Trio features Randy Drake on drums/percussion and Steve Billman on bass. Both Randy and Steve are studio musicians and have performed and recorded with Daniel for over 25 years. Randy teaches at California State University at Long Beach and recently received his Ph.D. in ethnomusicology from UC Santa Barbara. Steve has served as longtime faculty at Los Angeles College of Music in Pasadena.

The highly-acclaimed dancers of Hālau Hula Keali`i o Nālani are known for their perpetuation of ancient hula, Hawaiian culture, and its traditions. Equally impressive is their forward-thinking ability to present contemporary interpretations of new music and themes. The hālau serves as a vessel in which these legacies are taught and shared through hula. Members of the hālau range from children to seniors, male and female, and consist of different levels (e.g., recreational, competitive) based on their commitment to the art of hula. Dedicated to their kumu (teacher), some members have been with Keali'i since the start of the hālau in 1991. In its 29th year, the hālau has performed in national and international competitions and prestigious.
