Concert Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. 

The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated at 6:01 p.m. on Thursday,  April 4, 1968, as he stood on the balcony of his second-story  room at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee.  Although  he was rushed to St. Joseph's  Hospital, he was pronounced dead at 7:05 p.m.  This  concert commemorates the 50th anniversary of Dr. King's  assassination.  It will feature the Inner City Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles and Chorus with the Gay Men's  Chorus of Los Angeles and the Male Chorus of Loyola High School in performances of Lift Every Voice  and Sing, I Have a Dream, Seven Last Words of the Unarmed,  and Battle Hymn of the Republic.  The music will be interspersed with readings from a variety of faith  communities and a speech given by the winner of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference MLK  Day Oratorial Contest.  Tickets for this event are free.
