The Music Center’s Black Bar Social: Artificial Intelligence & The Rasquache Realm
Provocateur: Alex Rivera
Tuesday, October 8, 2024
6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
The Music Center's Dorothy Chandler Pavilion
Didn't have a chance to RSVP? That's ok! You can still stop by and experience Black Bar Social TONIGHT at The Music Center.
In a world where technology is evolving at an unprecedented pace, we invite you to explore the intersection of Artificial Intelligence and Rasquachismo—a concept rooted in Chicano culture that celebrates ingenuity and resourcefulness. Rasquachismo transforms the ordinary into the extraordinary, repurposing what’s available into something remarkable.
Join us for an immersive evening featuring thought-provoking new films, never-before-seen prints, and cutting-edge holograms designed to spark conversations about the possibilities and perils of AI. The Music Center’s Dorothy Chandler Pavilion will be transformed into a sci-fi cumbia cantina, with live soundscapes by DJ Ganas setting the tone for participatory discussions that push the boundaries of technological thought.
Curated by Alex Rivera, a filmmaker with over 25 years of experience exploring the intersection of technology and labor, this Black Bar Social offers an engaging evening of discovery, discussion, and cultural reflection as we navigate the profound ways technology is reshaping society.
