The Online Educator Network (OEN) is part of the Professional Development Program of the Music Center. OEN aims to use the Web to help educators bring the arts into the classroom. The goal of this pilot project is to help educators apply concepts and skills gained from Music Center programs to their classroom practice.

Art Education Research and Policy

Educators can use the latest arts education research, located below, to inform school officials, parents and district administrators about the benefits and models for developing comprehensive arts education programs.

  • Dana Foundation's Acts of Achievement: The Role of Performing Art Centers in Education
    In October 2003, the Dana Foundation published a 168-page publication studying K-12 education programs offered by performing arts centers nationwide. It also showcases 74 of these institutions, large and small, partnering with their local schools.   • Dana Foundation: Arts-Centered School Handbook
    Download this free handbook that includes 18 essays by artists and educators discussing curriculum development, funding, assessment, and community participation in arts-centered schools.   • Report: Art, Artists and Teaching
    June 2002: This report is the result of the "Art, Artists and Teaching" symposium, funded by the J. Paul Getty Trust and held at Bennington College.   • Creating Capacity: A Framework For Providing Professional Development Opportunities for Teaching Artists
    Published in Fall 2001, this report summarizes findings from the National Conversation on Artist Professional Development & Training convened by the DC-based Kennedy Center. "Creating Capacity" provides a framework for custom designing professional develoment programs for artists working in an educational setting.
