| Michael "Badhair" Williams
Assembly:
Have you heard of 'Jack' from "Jack in the Bean Tree"? How about "Big Jack Little Jack"? "Mutsmag or "Gee Haw Whimmydiddles?" Michael 'Badhair' Williams, born and reared in and still a resident of the mountains of North Carolina, brings Pioneer Appalachian Folk Tales and Folkways to life, pitting giants and witches against the wiles of Mutsmag, and Little Wiley against the Hairy Man. 'Badhair' has been telling Appalachian folk tales across the United States for close to three decades. He has performed for over one million students and teachers. His shows are interactive, sometimes using as many as five students at a time onstage helping to demonstrate folk toys and tell stories. A gifted actor and teller, students of all ages delight in this artist and the tales he tells. In continuing the tradition of the storyteller, Williams shares with his audiences the richness of his own culture, and a passion and deep appreciation for his heritage, compelling others to reflect on their stories, and their own roots.
