Assembly: Eugene Friesen is Cello Man in a performance that makes great music accessible to students of all ages. Cello Man portrays the many facets of a serious artist and a soulful instrument as the artist weaves a spellbinding fabric of stories, anecdotes, songs and poems. Friesen transforms himself with masks and costumes, integrating his character with the music, sharing stories, comedy and the recorded "songs" of humpback whales. The artist draws upon a lifetime of experience in music and theater to inspire and educate. From serious classics to serious fun, CelloMan provides a glimpse of exquisite playing and musical innovation rarely seen. Whether it is jazz, blues, classical or modern improvisations, Friesen plays with virtuosity, humor and drama.

Eugene Friesen, a graduate of the Yale School of Music, is active as a performer, composer, teacher and recording artist. Friesen is on the faculty of the Berklee College of Music in Boston. A Grammy award-winning cellist and composer with the Paul Winter Consort, Eugene Friesen has performed worldwide. His music has been inspired by trips deep into the Grand Canyon, travels in Brazil and Siberia, eye-to-eye contact with whales, and playing in great cathedrals and concert halls. CelloMan, created in collaboration with maskmaker/choreographer Robert Faust, has been performed widely in the United States.
