The Music Center would like to invite you to a celebration of color, sound, movement and spirit with Futa Toro! Allow yourself to be transported to a far away West African village in this vibrant, handclapping event. It begins with a 'drum call,' using a traditional West African rhythm such as Sunu (soo-noo) to signal everyone within hearing that a celebration is about to begin. Learn about the continent of Africa, the West African countries and heritage of the people through an exuberant display of color, music, song, and dance.Got Rhythm! is a captivating dance and music performance based in the indigenous American art form of rhythm tap dance. Channing Cook-Holmes, tap dancer and drummer extraordinaire, presents rhythm tap in its purest form with live instrumentation. It is a contemporary look at the origins of tap dance and the masters of the art, featuring drums, bass, and keyboards. Channing, along with the ensemble, interacts with and engages the audience in rhythm making, encouraging each person to discover the tap dancer or musician inside. Channing is joined on stage by the nationally renowned tap dancer Josette Wiggan. World City features internationally renowned artists in admission-free performances on select Saturdays at the W.M.
