A Series of Photos by David Stork Debuts During NocTOURnals at Walt Disney Concert Hall

One night in the kitchen of Patina will debut during NocTOURnals - A Cultural Open House at the Music Center's Walt Disney Concert Hall from 10:00 p.m. to midnight on Saturday, June 23, 2007. This unprecedented display of photographer David Stork's black and white images will be projected onto the Concert Hall's stainless steel exterior above the entrance to chef and restaurateur Joachim Splichal's flagship restaurant Patina.

Stork's photographs document Patina Restaurant's final evening at its original location on Melrose Avenue prior to its historic move downtown to Walt Disney Concert Hall. Patina Restaurant had been on Melrose for 14 years before moving to the Concert Hall in 2003.

The images showcase a dinner of long-time friends and devoted patrons celebrating the planned move to the Concert Hall, as they share special memories of the Melrose location's history. The presentation closes with heart-warming images of chef Splichal and his wife Christine reminiscing with the restaurant staff about 14 unforgettable years and the extraordinary moments they shared with their guests at Patina.

David Stork photographed the black and white images to honor the closing of the original location. Stork combined his experiences as a photojournalist documenting the fall of communism with his own history as part of Patina's staff to bring a unique insight into the photographs. His intimate approach to the subject matter could only be achieved through his relationship with the people who brought Patina's story to life. The projection of the images above the new restaurant emphasizes both the similarity and differences between the two Patinas.
