For Immediate Release: November 28, 2006

Award Honors Exemplary Arts Education Programs in Public and Private Schools Across Los Angeles County

Los Angeles (November 28, 2006) - The Music Center of Los Angeles County, a national leader in arts education, announced the 52 exemplary teachers and schools nominated for the 25th Annual BRAVO Award. These prestigious awards will be presented on February 27, 2007 at a gala dinner at the historic Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles. The BRAVO Award is an integral part of the Music Center's leadership in supporting quality arts education for all students.

The Music Center BRAVO Award was established in 1982 to recognize teachers and schools for innovation and excellence in arts education. The BRAVO Award honors educators who use the arts to revitalize teaching, enhance student achievement and foster self-esteem, teamwork and cross-cultural communication and understanding.

BRAVO Awards are presented in three categories: Arts Specialist (teacher), General Education (teacher) and School. Macy's provides the cash award of $10,000 for the winning school. The two winning teachers receive $4,000 each (generously donated by Club 100 members Sue Tsao, Grace Labatt and Elinor Turner).

This year there are 12 nominated schools from several school districts including Burbank, Hermosa Beach, Hacienda/La Puente and Los Angeles. 40 teachers have been nominated from school districts throughout Los Angeles County including Bellflower, Glendale, Palmdale, San Marino, Saugus and Whittier.

BRAVO Award nominations are made by principals, faculty committees, superintendents or parents. Nominees must complete a rigorous application process and a committee of educators and artists reviews every application and selects finalists who will be announced in early February 2007. All nominees and finalists are honored at a gala awards dinner - to be held on February 27, 2007 - where the three BRAVO Award winners are announced. The evening is hosted by acclaimed producer/director Garry Marshall who has emceed the event from its inception.

Club 100, a donor support group, provides assistance with staffing of the BRAVO Award gala and raising funds to support the program. Joan Boyett is Club 100 president; Bravo gala co-chairs are Sheila Ponchar and Sharon Reisz.
