| WHAT: |
Jorge Castañeda is a distinguished author -his 1994 book Utopia Unarmed was an examination of the failed movements of the Latin American left- and former Foreign Secretary under Mexican President Vicente Fox. His academic pedigree combined with his practical experience as a political activist and advisor provide him a unique perspective on the current political situation in Mexico.
Mr. Castañeda visits Zócalo to re-examine Latin America's left and its latest incarnation -including Venezuela's Hugo Chávez and Mexican presidential candidate Andrés Manuel López Obrador-in a lecture followed by a discussion with Andrés Martinez, LA Times Editorial Page Editor.
Zócalo "Public Square" Lecture Series features thinkers and doers speaking on some of the most pressing topics of the day. Bringing together an extraordinarily diverse group of Angelenos, Zócalo (meaning public square in Spanish) seeks to create a non-partisan and multiethnic forum where participants can enjoy a rare opportunity for intellectual fellowship.
